In an exclusive conversation on Bollywood Hungama ’s Lights, Camera, Podcast, with Rohit Khilnani, Bobby Deol opened up about the success of Aashram , his OTT series directed by Prakash Jha. He discussed his journey, transformation as an actor, and why OTT has been a game-changer for him. Bobby credited Prakash Jha for envisioning Aashram and for selecting actors who were suitable for their roles.
“Prakash Ji is the heart and soul of the show. He chose all of us with his gut instincts because he knew we could bring his story to life,” he said. He also noted that Aashram’s success is a collective achievement.
“Every character, every actor in the show has a fan following. It’s not just me, it’s all of us together, and that makes it even more special.” The actor also shared how deeply he has been inspired by the dedication and hardships of his co-stars.
“I have spent so much time with these actors, and they’re such lovely, hard working people. I’ve heard their stories, and that makes this journey even more meaningful,” he said. Bobby believes that an actor’s work speaks for itself.
Reflecting on his entry into OTT, he shared how his first project Class Of ‘83 holds a special place in his heart. “It all started with Class of ‘83 . That film is special to me.
You know how your first project is always special? For me, Class of ‘83 will always be special because it was my first OTT film. And it was the first time I got to play a role completely different from my real personality”. The actor revealed that the rise of OTT has been a turning point in his career.
“OTT is the best thing that’s happened to me. I’ve done some really interesting work that is away from my real-life personality, and that’s what has spoken for me.” He even disclosed that his role in Love Hostel directly led to a new film offer.
“Someone saw my performance and said, ‘Bobby can play this kind of role,’ and that’s how I got the film,” he said.
