Ex-Norwich City head coach Alex Neil has been confirmed as Millwall’s new boss. Neil signed a ‘long term’ deal with the Lions and will be joined at the New Den by his former Stoke City assistant, Martin Canning. The Canaries former play-off winning manager has been out of work since leaving the Potters 12 months ago.
City beat Millwall 2-1 on Boxing Day before the Lions drew 0-0 at Coventry City – with Neil in attendance at the CBS - under caretaker coach David Livermore, who will remain part of Neil’s backroom team. Millwall chairman James Berylson told his club’s website: “We’re excited to welcome Alex to the club. Having met with him over the last couple of weeks, I have really enjoyed his passion and energy for the role.
“We have a clear vision and strategy at the club that Alex is aligned with, and he has some really exciting ideas of how we can progress with those objectives and ambitions together across the entire club. “All our support is there for Alex, and I can’t wait to see what he can do for us. I, alongside everybody at Millwall, wish him the very best as our new head coach.
” Neil guided Norwich to the Premier League via Wembley in 2015 to cap a whirlwind first six months in the job but was unable to keep the Canaries in the top flight. He was replaced towards the end of his first full season back in the Championship in a move that paved the way for the appointment of Daniel Farke. The Scot has since had spells at Preston and Sunderland before failing to turnaround the Potters’ fortunes.
Norwich are scheduled to visit Millwall for their Championship return on April 21 in their penultimate away fixture of the regular season. Our new Head Coach. #Millwall pic.
