A familiar face on social media, actor and content creator Evert 'Evy Royal' Johnson has accepted a different, though unsurprising, opportunity: a role in the local play Pitchy Patchy . Announced as one of the fresh faces in the cast for the new season, among big names like Simone Clarke, Jodian Adria Pantry, and Yendi Phillipps, Evy Royal admits it's a bit different from his usual short skits, but he's eagerly embracing the challenge. Hailing from humble beginnings in Manchester, Evy Royal has been building his online presence for almost a decade and gained recognition about two years ago.
His typical skits take audiences back to the "good ol' days" of childhood games and shared family experiences, bringing plenty of laughs. Most of his scripts draw inspiration from his upbringing with his mother, grandparents, and relatives and from interactions with both the old and young in his community. Speaking with THE WEEKEND STAR on how he got the opportunity to be in the cast of Pitchy Patchy , he said "Well, I got involved with the play when they DM'd me on Instagram and asked if I was interested in being a part of it.
I said yes because I thought it would be a great experience." And, so far it has been. Highlighting that the TikTok world is very different from theatre, he shared that it "takes a lot of dedication, focus, and patience".
He added that the journey is gratifying, as it is teaching him several new things that he believes will help to propel his career as an actor. As the play kicks off this weekend with its gala night, Evy Royal is excited to see the support of those who will be coming out to watch him and his castmates as they bring something new to its new venue, the Courtleigh Auditorium. "I look forward to seeing people come out to support the play and enjoy every moment of it because it's rich in Jamaican culture and represents it well," he said.
Pitchy Patchy will run until November 17..
