Wheeler Dealers presenter Mike Brewer has issued a range of tip advice to everyone looking for the best-used car deal.

Wheeler Dealers star Mike Brewer has issued a range of important tips to ensure motorists secure the best deal on their next used second-hand car. The host of the classic car restoration series suggested saying simple things to the dealer could see price tags tumble. He also advised motorists to look for vital signs when undergoing checks to put them in the best position to haggle.

Figures suggest that 7.6 million used cars changed hands in the UK in 2024, a 5.5% year-on-year rise.

Speaking to Car Dealer Magazine , Mike first suggested that considering a part exchange deal could be a simple way to save. He said: "If you’ve got a decent part exchange, they are more likely to do a much, much better deal with you. "A dealer would be happy to do a much better deal with you on your part exchange, therefore giving you a much better deal on the car you're buying in the hope he can put your car in stock and sell it again.

" According to Mike, language is key with motorists urged to never talk themselves out of securing a great deal the second they walk in. Piquing a dealer's interest by teasing them that a deal is possible is one-way numbers could be dramatically cut. He added: "Just be honest with the dealer.

Let the dealer know you're willing to do a deal and that you will buy a car today. "What do they need to do to make sure you do buy a car today? Dealers don't want to hear that you're just shopping around and you’re just looking." Mike has previously suggested that road users should always do their research, making sure they know exactly how much a model should be priced before trying to haggle.

Finally, visual checks are also vital with a simple glance over a car's bodywork enough to determine whether something is wrong. Speaking on his One Automotive YouTube channel , Mike explained: "If it had an accident on the front or the rear it’s likely to have a number plate changed by the accident centre. "That means this car hasn't had an accident in our opinion because it's got matching front and back number plates.
