A man armed with weapons has sparked a police lockdown in Hove. Here's everything we know so far

A man with weapons has led to police shutting down a busy road in Hove for several hours. The incident began around 4pm, with reports of police closing off Portland Road in Hove. The section of road closed off was between Westbourne Street and the A2023, Nevill Road.

Armed police were spotted within the cordon, along with the police dog unit and at least half a dozen other police vehicles. One officer was seen operating a drone near a property.



At 4.20pm, police released a statement on what was happening. They said: "Police are currently responding to a report of a man in possession of weapons at a private address in Portland Road, Hove.

"The incident is ongoing and a section of the road has been closed as a precaution." Traffic coped well despite the closure, according to traffic reports. The are rumours circulating on social media about the details of the weapons incident - which The Argus has chosen not to republish until the details are verified by police.

As of 10pm, the incident was still ongoing. Sussex Police has been approached for more information..
