The newspaper reported on 17 September that the bid had been made despite John Textor having a period of exclusivity until the end of November. It is said that club officials’ main concern is the long-running takeover saga, and Friedkin’s recent bid could throw a spanner in the works as talks progress. It seemed as if there was no chance of Friedkin becoming the Toffees’ new owner in the wake of his consortium unceremoniously pulling out of takeover talks in July.

However, the American remains intertwined with the club due to the £158million loan his group before talks with Moshiri collapsed – meaning he is now owed that money [ ]. Despite all of the different twists at Goodison Park, Textor is said to to complete a takeover before the end of the year [ , 16 September]. With the Crystal Palace stakeholder looking to at Selhurst Park [ , 12 September], more movement could be expected very shortly.
