The State of Ageing report reveals that nearly half of the county's residents are over 50, affecting healthcare, transport, and housing. It also highlights gaps in transport and digital services, which are isolating many older residents, and the need for more support for unpaid carers, many of whom are over 50. Recommendations include improving public transport, providing more non-digital service options, and offering increased support to unpaid carers.
Voluntary Action North Somerset (VANS) has organised an event on November 20 at Locking Castle Church in Worle to discuss the report's findings and work towards a more age-friendly community. Fadumo Farah, the new ageing well coordinator for Weston, Worle, and surrounding villages at VANS, will summarise the ground-breaking report at the event, which is open to all and will run from 11am to 2.30pm.
