Trump had recently announced a 20% tariff on European Union countries like France and Germany as he seeks to dismantle the global trading system. Speaking to Sky News on Sunday, Berger also said that the EU wants to avoid a trade war.

“We are prepared to retaliate,” Berger confirmed as he said the EU is a market of 450 million people and the United States’ largest place of investment. “We have a lot to bring to the table. We want to avoid this trade war,” he added.



This is coming after scores of people on Saturday protested across European cities against Trump and his billionaire adviser Elon Musk. This followed a bruising week for financial markets after Trump announced sweeping global tariffs.
