Ethan Laird has reminded his teammates to trust Chris Davies’ process after a draw which ‘felt like a loss’. Birmingham City dropped points for the second successive League One game after Northampton snatched a 1-1 draw in stoppage time at St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park. Mitch Pinnock scored at the Gil Merrick to deny Blues a sixth straight league win on home turf.

“It’s really unfortunate,” said Laird. “It’s something you don’t expect to happen. The keeper has wellied it up in the air and it’s just had a funny bounce.

I’m not sure you can do that again. “It does feel like a loss because of how well we played. We dominated the game and we just need to learn from it.

It’s not a thing where we’re going to get mad. It’s just a little learning curve after what we did for the whole game, flip a coin and something just happened for them.” READ: Chris Davies explains why Ben Davies and Gardner-Hickman missed Blues match READ: Blues player ratings after Jay Stansfield goal cancelled out by Northampton Davies has emphasised the importance of the process to his Blues players throughout this season.

Results are never guaranteed in football but the chances of victory are greater when the team performs well. Blues dominated Northampton statistically and had opportunities to kill the game before Pinnock pinched their point. Laird believes performances will lead Blues to points and, in turn, promotion to the Championship.

“Emotions are a bit high right now because we feel like we lost the game, but we did actually get a point on the board,” Laird added. “Positives, we need to remind ourselves of that. We want to get three points as much as we can, but if we can continue being consistent in performances you bring yourself to a level where three points happen.

“You have to focus on the performances and focus on these intricate little things, then it becomes a thing of winning. The performances are the most important thing.” Do you trust the process?
