Park Holidays found the county to be the fourth most frightening spot for those seeking a thrilling getaway, finishing in this position in the “most haunted” and “ghostliest area” categories. For the fans of spooky season, the area beat out other locations in the top ten such as Sussex, Hampshire, Dorset, Cornwall, Devon and Cumbria. The study looked across the 16 key historic locations in the UK analysing the number of reportedly haunted buildings and areas, the number of horror movies filmed in the location, and the number of ‘monsters’ spotted.

The ranking had a maximum rating of 10 based on this criteria. Elsewhere, Hertfordshire topped the ranking as the most haunted location with a score of 10, boasting over 11 haunted locations and three “monster sightings.” Kent was found to be the “ghostliest area” with a total of 30 haunted buildings and locations in the area.
