An ESPN studio host is grateful for the work of a Good Samaritan who saved him from choking Friday night. Peter Burns, host of SEC Network's pre-game football show, was out to dinner in Columbia, Missouri before Saturday's game between Missouri and Boston College when he began choking on a piece of food. On Monday, Burns tweeted about the ordeal and thanked the man who came to his rescue, a Missouri fan named Jack Foster.
"While at dinner w/ our SEC Network crew, I began to choke on a piece of food. Immediately I knew it was serious and motioned to our table that I couldn’t breathe," Burns said . "I then waved over a friend to give me the Heimlich and he couldn’t dislodge the food.
Then in a panic, I motioned for someone else to try. After about 90 seconds, the second person was unsuccessful Then a nurse comes over and he attempts to try as well, but alas still no luck." Icon Sportswire/Getty Images Burns said that two minutes into the ordeal, he began to lose his vision and black out.
That's when Foster stepped into the fray. "Right as I was about to lose consciousness, Jack Foster (the 4th person to try) tried," Burns said. "Mr.
Foster was a youth sports coach & told us later that he had just gone through training for his teams on how to do both CPR & save someone from choking. That training is why I am here right now. I’m thankful for him and all involved that helped saved my life that night.
" Burns, who said he suffered four fractured ribs as a result of the rescue measures, also thanked Missouri trainers who helped him "get back on my feet." Thankfully, this frightening situation had a happy ending. Related: Bon Jovi Saved Woman's Life In Heroic Act On Nashville Bridge.
