Espina: Scholarships

Various socio-civic and business organizations in Cebu offer special scholarship programs for deserving and financially challenged high school and college students. These are in addition to the scholarships provided by educational institutions. Each program follows specific criteria and guidelines, such as financial need, academic performance, good conduct and determination to complete one’s studies.

Founder of the Punla Inc. Foundation. I have been fortunate to be part of the Punla Inc.

Foundation, organized by the late Norberto Quisumbing Jr., the Amparito Llamas Lhuillier Educational Foundation, and the WeCare Foundation, which was established by a group of business and socio-civic clubs appointed by the City Government. This happened when politicians were campaigning for the first election after the first Edsa Revolution.

MCE with Paulette Rivera, Giselle Almazan and Bessie Villamor — alumni of the University of San Jose-Recoletos Dramatics and Cultural Ensemble. These foundations have existed for decades, producing graduates who have become successful professionals, entrepreneurs, artists and industrialists worldwide. It is always heartwarming to meet some of them during my travels and through various business projects with the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, American Chamber, and the Department of Tourism, both in the Philippines and abroad.
