The American Academy of Equine Art exhibition now open at the Aiken Center for the Arts celebrates the horse in sport and life. From Oct. 24 through Nov.
30, the main gallery will share a collection of works by the finest equine artists in the country. The American Academy of Equine Art Juried Exhibition will feature 75 pieces of artwork by 59 artists from across the nation. The AAEA is a nonprofit organization founded in 1980, whose mission is dedicated to nurturing, educating and promoting all artists who are interested in the classical representation of the equine subject.
The AAEA is dedicated to promoting and sharing representational art that celebrates the horse in sport and life. It also offers hands-on instruction from practicing equine artists with a goal of fostering artistic excellence in the genre. The goal of the founders was to assemble the finest equine artists in the country to exhibit together, share creative ideas and, eventually, to establish a teaching organization that would be modeled after the Royal Academy in England.
Today, AAEA remains true to its original mission by hosting multiple yearly exhibits in national locations. These events showcase artists from all over North America and are viewed by collectors and dealers alike as a source for the best in contemporary equine art. Many of the academy's signature and juried members are among the most accomplished equine painters and sculptors working today, and they form the teaching core for the academy's popular workshops and clinics.
Alongside the main gallery, the Aiken Artist Guild Gallery will showcase artwork by member artists Pamela Moore and Brenda Zaloudek.
