Epson has announced a new QS100 4K Pro-UHD HDR Ultra Short Throw Laser Projector. Unlike standard throw projectors, the company says that the projector’s precision glass ultra short throw lens drastically reduces the throw distance and supports screen sizes up to 160-inches. Designed to integrate into smart home systems, the QS100 integrates with premium audio and smart home control systems to create customisable experiences.

It can be configured with Crestron, Control4, or any PJLink-compatible control system, supporting operation via remote control, touchpad, or even voice control systems. It is ISF Certified, allowing professional calibrators to optimise performance for the customer’s specific viewing environment. The QS100 features 4,500 lumens of colour brightness (IDMS Rated) and 4,500 lumens of white brightness (ISO Rated) with the company’s proprietary 3-chip 3LCD laser-array technology.

The projector’s pixel-shifting technology controls three individual high-definition LCD chips. “Featuring Epson’s innovative 3-chip, 3LCD technology, the QS100 delivers vibrant, lifelike images. Plus, with a stronger focus on custom integration needs, the QS100 is a perfect fit within Epson’s ultra-premium, high-lumen Q-Series, designed for contemporary living spaces beyond traditional home theatre rooms,” said Melvin Diaz, senior product manager, Epson America.

It is powered by the company’s QZX Picture Processor, a 32-bit proprietary engine that it claims enhances contrast, brightness and colour accuracy. An advanced dynamic tone mapping feature further refines HDR performance for a balanced, vibrant, true-to-life image. The company says that the projector is nearly maintenance-free for up to 20,000 hours.

For gamers, there is support for Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) and “very low input lag for competitive gaming.” The QS100 has two HDMI 2.0 inputs with 18Gbps bandwidth, ARC/eARC, HDMI CEC and HDCP 2.

3 support built-in. There’s also two USB-A ports for firmware updates and content playback, a USB-B port for firmware updates, an RJ45 LAN port for IP control and an RS-232C (DB-9) jack for control systems integration. The Epson QS100 is priced at US$4999 (A$7952) and is available in black and white models through authorised Epson dealers.

Exact pricing and availability for the Australian market is yet to be confirmed..
