THE Dual Language Programme (DLP), introduced in Malaysia in 2016, aims to improve students’ English proficiency by using English as the medium of instruction for Science and Mathematics at both primary and secondary school levels. This initiative is seen as the revival of the teaching of Science and Mathematics in English programme first introduced in 2003 and abolished in 2010. Despite the stopping of that programme, the demand from parents for the return of English-medium education for these subjects remained strong, as they believe it is essential for their children to gain proficiency in English, particularly in global subjects like Science and Mathematics.
