
Ensemble Modern has announced that it will be the ensemble-in-residence of Prague Spring Festival’s “Prague Offspring” project from 2025 to 2027.This May, the Ensemble Modern will present a series of concerts, master classes, and reading lessons. The concert on May 30, conducted by Michael Wendeberg, will include a total of four world premieres by young Czech composers.
Sir George Benjamin, this year’s composer-in-residence conducts the second concert which will feature the Czech premiere of an extensive ensemble work by Slavomír Hořínka, and Oliver Knussen’s “Songs without Voices” and George Benjamin’s “Into the Little Hill.” This concert is planned for May 31.In addition, three composition students will be given the opportunity to work with the Ensemble Modern on some of their own pieces for smaller ensembles composed especially for this occasion.
This will take place in the form of public rehearsals guided by Wendeberg.The “Prague Offspring” project which is dedicated to contemporary music has been an integral part of the “Prague Spring Festival” since 2022. Project activities are directed by renowned contemporary music ensembles, taking turns every three years.
