Pune: Engineering students should be trained in Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) as part of their curriculum to meet industry demands, experts suggested at a roundtable conference hosted by the Pune International Centre (PIC) on Friday. Industry leaders Pradeep Mane (AISSMS IOIT), Rajesh Ingle (former VC, Symbiosis Skills and Professional University), and Vivek Bhartiya (TCS) discussed a draft proposal to integrate DPI skills into engineering education . Dinanath Kholkar, Research Track Lead, PIC, noted that many students remain unaware of DPI's significance, highlighting the need for structured training.

DPI includes digital platforms supporting governance, healthcare, finance, and education. Experts recommended incorporating data security, legal aspects, and a gold data standard into the curriculum. Academicians raised concerns about course overload, with Rekha Sugandhi (MIT ADT University) suggesting DPI be introduced as a minor course rather than an elective for easier implementation.
