The victory snapped the Garnet Chargers’ five-game losing streak. Engelbert put Union (3-6-0 overall) ahead 1-0 with 44 seconds left in the first period. She tallied her second goal on a tip of an Emma Hebert shot with 2:22 remaining in the second period.

Engelbert completed her hat trick a little over 6 1-2 minutes into the third period when she put in the rebound of a Kendal Davidson shot past goalie Emily Davidson. The hat trick was the first by a Union women’s player since Emma Fulawka got one against Saint Michael’s on Jan. 1 of last season.

It’s the second straight season that Union has opened ECACH play by beating Harvard. The Garnet Chargers beat the Crimson 3-1 at Bright-Landry Hockey Center. Union goalie Sophie Matsoukas made 24 saves to record her second shutout of the season and third of her career.

Union hosts Dartmouth at 3 p.m. Saturday.
