Michael's Pizza Bar, an institution of the South Side community in Pittsburgh famed for its variety of pizzas, including pierogies and mac & cheese variations, will close permanently on March 28th after a 45-year tenure, the owner confirmed in a somber social media announcement. The abrupt closure of the pizzeria, beloved not just for its pizzas but also for its hoagies, wings, and other foods, was subtly tucked away in a cheerful Facebook post about a slice day promotion, "It's slice day and the sun is shining!! Drop by for a $1 plain slice (with a pop purchase) and enjoy the sunshine," before sliding in the news, "And, we're sad to say..

.our last day serving yinz will be March 28th," according to Michael's Pizza Bar.The restaurant's legacy began with founders Michael and Dee Glowacki in the 1980s.

In early February 2020, its ownership was transferred to Kevin Cox and Mary Cox, co-founders of Bar Marco, and his sister, who have maintained the pizzeria's original charm and appeal until now. The Post-Gazette reported that Cox had previously sold his ownership stake in Bar Marco, and no reasons have been disclosed for the unexpected closure. While the proprietors have not provided any official statements regarding the decision to close, they expressed heartfelt gratitude to patrons, "We're so grateful for all the good times we've had serving our community and look forward to seeing you a time or two (or 10) before we go!!" as noted by Audacy.
