Ludhiana: The joint committee formed to verify facts about encroachments on green belts in BRS Nagar and old GT Road submitted its report with the National Green Tribunal (NGT). The report was filed in the case of an ongoing petition filed by the council of engineers in the National Green Tribunal (NGT). The committee, in its report, admitted that right of way and green belts are being used by Lodhi club and a prominent school for various purposes.

Committee members visited the city on August 8 to investigate the allegations made in the original application. The NGT had also imposed a penalty of Rs 1 lakh on the MC commissioner for not providing information to committee members on time. Committee members observed that the primary entrance gate of Lodhi Club has been constructed on land designated as Right of Way (ROW), managed by the municipal corporation.

The club is utilising the adjacent ROW for parking. Another gate leading to the badminton court has also been constructed on this ROW. This gate is not reflected in the approved site plan of Lodhi Club, sanctioned by the MC.

Construction and use of the ROW by Lodhi Club for parking and other purposes raises concerns regarding encroachment on public land.
