Emma Raducanu has revealed the one area of her game that has the biggest room for improvement following her victory at the Billie Jean King Cup in Malaga. Raducanu made a successful return to the court at the event in southern Spain, beating Germany’s Jule Niemeier in straight sets to help Great Britain into the quarter-finals . While her performance wasn’t flawless, Raducanu showed signs she was getting back towards her best after yet another injury-ridden season.

But the 2021 US Open winner wasn’t entirely convinced with her performance, saying after the match: “Physically I felt quite good especially as I haven’t played a match for so long. “It was a good test for me and I am very happy with the way I held my nerve. I have obviously been working a little bit in practice on my serve and it was very good in patches but there is still room for improvement.

“I am looking forward to just seeing the areas I can take from this match and work on in my pre-season and be ready for next year.” Raducanu’s year isn’t over just yet though, with the 22-year-old hoping to inspire Great Britain to their first-ever Billie Jean King Cup triumph. Katie Boulter , who also shone for Great Britain in the win over Germany, believes the vibe in the camp is strong.

Speaking after the Friday evening contest, the British No.1 said: “I’m really happy with the way I played. I kept my focus.

Honestly, it’s hard to stay focused the whole time in those matches, and obviously I’m supposed to win that on paper, but you never know what’s going to happen. So I never take that for granted. “You’ve got to try and win every single point and stay on top as much as possible and not really give her an inch, because those kinds of players can come back if you drop your level for a game or two.

” Boulter, Raducanu and co. will return to action on Sunday when they take on reigning champions Canada. The victors of the last-eight tie will then go on to play the winner of Slovakia and Australia.

On the opposite side of the bracket, Poland and Czechia will go head-to-head for a spot in the semi-finals alongside either Japan or Italy. The action continues over the weekend, with the final being held in Malaga on Wednesday..
