The Emir of Argungu, Kebbi State, Alhaji Samaila Muhammad Mera has urged Youths in the state to embrace football which could fetch them an opportunity to excel in life. Mera stated this during the final match between Mai-Jakkai Football Club and Mera United Football Club, played at Kanta Memorial Stadium Argungu organised by the Youth Soccer Association of Argungu Kebbi state. The competition was the 1st edition of Emir of Argungu Youth Championship 2025 which begun on the 1st February, ends on 16th with the final match between Mera united Football Club and Mai-Jakkai Football Club.

After the 90 minutes without a winner, the teams went into a penalty shootouts where Mera United Football Club defeated Mai-Jakkai Football Club by 4 goals to 3 to claim the trophy. While speaking at the event, his Royal Highness, Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Samaila Muhammad Mera commended Wacot Rice Limited Argungu for their Community Development Initiatives in the State especially Argungu Emirate. He called on the Youths to embrace football and put more efforts in order to excel saying that, “there are many football Scouters from within and outside the Country that are participating in such tournaments like this to select the best among the players.



The Chief Operating Officer of Wacot Rice Limited, Argungu, Mr. Jayant Jagtap in his remark said they brought the idea of sponsorship of the tournament as a way of their Community Development Initiative to give back to the society and promised to continue to sponsor the tournament which is going to be an annual event. Other dignitaries who attended the event include the General Manager Wacot Rice Limited Argungu, Dr.

Umar Muhammad, President of the African Beach Soccer Union, Alhaji Mahmud Hadejia represented by the Abdullahi Yahaya, the General Secretary of Kebbi Beach Soccer Association among others. Prizes and trophies were presented to the Tournament’s Champions, Mera United Football Club and the Runners-Up, Mai-Jakkai Football Club. Medals and gifts were also presented to third place winners, Tottenham Football Club Argungu.

The event featured awards to eleven personalities that contributed to the Youth and Sports Development in Argungu Emirate. The event which was sponsored by Wacot rice mills Argungu, Kebbi state is part of their corporate social responsibility to the host community..
