Karla Sofía Gascón is still here for her fellow Oscar nominee Fernanda Torres . The Emilia Pérez star denied speaking ill of the I'm Still Here performer—who she's facing off in the Best Actress category at the upcoming 2025 Oscars —and violating an Academy Awards policy. The accusations came after Gascón alleged there's been an online campaign to undermine her ahead of the March 2 ceremony, telling Brazilian newspaper Folha de S.

Paulo in a Spanish interview, "What I don’t like are social media teams—people who work with these people—trying to diminish our work, like me and my movie, because that doesn’t lead anywhere." "You don’t need to tear down someone’s work to highlight another’s," she continued in a Jan. 28 video.

"I have never, at any point, said anything bad about Fernanda Torres or her movie. However, there are people working with Fernanda Torres tearing me and Emilia Pérez down. That speaks more about their movie than mine.

" According to Oscars regulations, any "public communication by anyone directly associated with an eligible film attempting to cast a negative or derogatory light on a competing film or achievement will not be tolerated." "In particular," policy posted on the Academy website reads, "any tactic that singles out 'the competition' by name or title is expressly forbidden." Amid speculation that she may have violated the Oscars' code of conduct, Gascón clarified that her remarks were not about Torres or her direct associates.

"I am an enormous fan of Fernanda Torres and it has been wonderful getting to know her the past few months," she said in a Jan. 29 statement to Variety . "In my recent comments, I was referencing the toxicity and violent hate speech on social media that I sadly continue to experience.

" Gascón continued, "Fernanda has been a wonderful ally, and no one directly associated with her has been anything but supportive and hugely generous." In fact, Gascón has noted that she'll be content with whoever wins the Oscar. "This isn’t a competition," she told Folha de S.

Paulo during her interview. "This is simply about people liking one's work or not." E! News has reached out to Gascón and Torres' reps, as well as the Academy, for comment but hasn't heard back.
