"Like I was telling the guys, sometimes when we have a pop-up, we kind of put our heads down and pout about it. Our guys knew on a windy day like today, a pop-up wasn't a guaranteed out," Lorain coach Brad Ternes said. "Those are hard plays to make.

Our guys were hustling. We were able to take the extra bases on those errors rather than making it a single. We were able to capitalize on that and it pumps up the rest of the team when we're taking extra bases.

" Elyria took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning with an RBI single by Brayden Barbee. The Titans responded with their big second inning and didn't look back. Hall led off the inning with his first hit and scored Lorain's first run.

Preston Whitfield and Jacob Rivera drew back-to-back walks to load the bases with no outs. Jackxiel Collazo scored Hall with a fielder's choice bunt and the Titans took the lead two at-bats later following a walk and hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded. "It was huge," Hough said.

"We came alive with the bats and everybody got their confidence up and stayed positive." The next two at-bats caused the second inning to really got away from the Pioneers. Lorain scored two runs off of an error and Hall knocked in two runs with his infield single.

Four of the Titans' seven runs were unearned. "That's been the story of the year — we don't make the routine play," Elyria coach Jordan Connell said. "If you don't make the routine play and you walk people, you give up seven runs in an inning.

" Elyria fired back with two runs in the fourth inning and one in the fifth. Nate Taylor hit an RBI double and later scored on an error. However, neither team scored for the rest of the game as Hough and Elyria pitcher Harlem Mallory held down the fort.

In seven innings, Hough struck out four Pioneers and earned the win. "It feels great," Hough said. "That's a tough team to play against, especially after Garfield Heights and seeing a big adjustment.

It felt like the team played great. It was a great win, I know everyone's going to be happy going home." After starting the season 0-6, the Titans have three straight wins this week.

They look for a fourth straight win against Valley Forge on April 19. "That's three in a row after losing the first six but we had some tough competition to start the season," Ternes said. "We started with a really tough part of our schedule.

The next few games, hopefully we can ride this momentum and keep it going." Lorain 7, Elyria 5.
