Read More British singer-songwriter Elton John has revealed that he was “not in good shape" while recording his new album “Who Believes in Angels?". The album was released on Friday. Following the release, 78 year-old John appeared alongside co-worker Brandi Carlile, producer Andrew Watt, and his longtime collaborator Bernie Taupin for the premier of “Who Believes In Angels? Stories from the Edge of Creation".
It is a candid, 30-minute documentary about the making of the new album. During a panel discussion with moderator Dave Karger, John shared his experience and struggles while making the album. He revealed that he was “not in good shape" during the recording process, according to a report by the People.
The singer admitted to being physically exhausted and emotionally drained. “When you’re in a studio and trying to come to grips with the fact that you want to make a great record, you can’t always predict what’s going to happen," John said. Despite entering the studio with no set plans, he found himself in emotional turmoil.
This uncertainty led to frustration and “bad behavior" at times, he was quoted as saying by the portal. He also acknowledged that the emotional turbulence was necessary for the creative process. Recalling the period as a challenging moment in his career, he said: “More than anything I had so much doubt about my ability to come through in what we needed to come through.
And that led to a lot of aggression and bad behavior. In a way, it was necessary for me to do that because I never had so much doubt and apprehension before I started the project." Working with Carlile, who is an American songwriter, was a new experience for John.
However, the British singer expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the work despite its challenges, the report added. In a controversial moment from the film, John also told Brandi Carlile to “F–– off". To this, the American singer responded by calling him “unfiltered" during the panel discussion.
“His heart is right on his sleeve, and what he thinks comes out of his mouth," she said, crediting John’s honesty for the authenticity in his music..
