Electoral roll deadline looms for federal poll

More Australians will be able to vote in the upcoming federal election than ever before, but time is running out to make sure people can have their say.

Voters are running out of time to make sure they're able to cast their ballot in the upcoming federal election. Login or signup to continue reading The electoral roll will close at 8pm on Monday, with the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) urging people to update their details. The May 3 federal poll will have a record high number of voters on the roll, but electoral commissioner Jeff Pope said the deadline is fast approaching for people to ensure they are eligible.

"The fastest way to enrol is by completing the online enrolment form on the AEC website. Don't delay and join the 18 million Australians currently on the roll," he said. "This federal election will have the best democratic base for participation our country has ever had.



" Since the election was announced, more than 400,000 people have either updated their details or registered to vote for the first time. Voters can now also use their Medicare cards as proof of identity for registering. The upcoming election will be the first time generation Z and millennial voters will outnumber baby boomers at the polls.
