Election results in Walla Walla County races unchanged despite updated returns

Another batch of Walla Walla County election results were released Wednesday, Nov. 13, and none of the local races have changed significantly.

Another batch of Walla Walla County election results were released Wednesday, Nov. 13, and none of the local races have changed significantly. Bertha Clayton’s lead over incumbent Jenny Mayberry in the race for Walla Walla County Commissioner District 1 remains strong.

Clayton is leading with 12,078 votes, or 57.89% to Mayberry's 8,745 votes, or 41.92%.



There are also 39 write-in votes, good for 0.19% of the vote. Candidates seeking to fill Walla Walla County's District 1 Commissioner seat — Bertha Clayton, left, and Jenny Mayberry.

With only 4,793 votes in the county remaining to be counted, Mayberry’s window for victory continues to close. The tightest race in the election, meanwhile, got even closer. The city of College Place’s request for a $14 million bond for a new police station still trails, but has slightly closed the gap.

As of Thursday, Nov. 13, the bond trials with 1,553 no votes, or 51%, to 1,492 yes votes, or 49%. This 61-vote deficit is down from 94 when the last batch of results were released on Friday, Nov.

8. Elsewhere, the levy lid lift for Walla Walla County Fire District. No.

8, which serves a portion of the county north of Walla Walla, including Dixie, continues to lead. If passed, the lid lift would raise the levy amount for the fire district to $1.10 per $1,000 of valuation.

The levy currently sits at $0.66 per 1,000 of valuation. The levy lift leads 244 yes votes, or 66.

85% to 121 no votes, or 33.15%. In the Legislative District 16 races, the latest round of results showed that the candidates’ percentage of the vote totals had barely budged.

Republican State Sen. Perry Dozier continued to lead his Democratic challenger Kari Isaacson 64.04% to 35.

88%, or 39,561 votes to 22,169 votes throughout the district. In Walla Walla County, Dozier led 60.46% to 39.

48%, or 12,747 votes to Isaacson’s 8,323 votes. State House Position 1 incumbent Republican Rep. Mark Klicker’s lead over Democrat Linda Gunshefski also held steady in District 16: 65.

05% to 34.9%, or 40,214 votes to 21,573 votes. Walla Walla County voters backed Klicker 62.

24% to 37.74%, or 13,161 votes to Gunshefski’s 7,980 votes. The same is true for the legislative district’s State House Position 2 race, with incumbent Republican Rep.

Skyler Rude leading 66.41% to Democratic challenger Craig Woodard’s 33.53%, or 40,863 votes to 20,631 votes.

In Walla Walla County, Rude led 65.16% to 34.8%, or 13,686 votes to Woodard’s 7,310 votes.

Columbia County hasn’t updated its results since Election Day, Nov. 5. This means there has been no change for Columbia County Pool District Proposition 1, which would allow a $200,000 excess levy to fund the Dayton Community Pool District, its restoration project and any annual maintenance required for the community pool once operational.

As of Election Day, the levy was passing with 1,355 votes, or 61.7%, to 841 votes, or 38.3%.

The Prescott Joint Park and Recreation levy race includes voters in both Walla Walla and Columbia counties. This $145,000 levy would cover upkeep in the Prescott Joint Park and Recreation District. While the Columbia County portion of votes won’t be updated again until Monday, Nov.

25, new Walla Walla County results have been counted. As of Wednesday, the levy leads 173 yes votes, or 67.95% to 85 no votes, or 32.
