Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi was a popular record-breaking Indian daily soap that won people’s hearts with its captivating storyline and perfect starcast. The Indian drama aired on Star Plus from 2000 to 2008, spanning 1,833 episodes. The iconic serial Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi was co-produced by Shobha Kapoor and Ekta Kapoor under Balaji Telefilms banner.
The drama highlighted the story of an Indian family, revolving around Tulsi Virani, an ideal daughter-in-law played by Smriti Irani. Ekta Kapoor’s serial Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi featured an impressive cast including Smriti Irani, Apara Mehta, Amar Upadhyay, Hiten Tejwani, Riva Bubber, Sumeet Sachdev and others. Recently, Ekta opened up about remaking her iconic soap opera.
Ekta Kapoor confirmed that she is in the process of remaking the popular Star Plus serial Kyuki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. Recently, she talked about the same at the India Global Forum in Mumbai. Ekta said, I’m re-making the biggest show I ever made.
It gave me an identity, and then I had to fight a lot to make other things. But it became what I was known for.” Ekta Kapoor added, “But because of my problems as a production house with another big corporate, the programme ended (with) 160 episodes less before it completed its big 2000 (episode milestone).
The love we have received for this programme has brought everyone who is attached to it back to complete just those episodes to reach that 2000 (number). The show deserves that. On the question of bringing back the old cast, Ekta said, We’re bringing politics into entertainment or better, a politician into entertainment.
AS predicted, Ekta’s statement was referring to Smriti Irani’s comeback to the iconic show. Smriti Irani took a break from acting after joining the BJP-led Union Government as a Cabinet Minister, holding various portfolios from 2014 to 2024 including Minister of Women and Child Development, Minister of Minority Affairs, Minister of Human Resource Development, Minister of Information and Broadcasting, and Minister of Textiles. When Smriti was asked about her plans of returning back to her iconic role Tulsi from Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, she replied, Hmmmmmm leaving audiences guessing about her comeback.
Reportedly, the official announcement about the show will be done by June 2025. Amar Upadhyay, who originally played Mihir Virani, is expected to reprise his role in the reboot of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi..
