By Baba Martins The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected the verdict of the Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, which upheld the election of Governor Monday Okpebholo, describing it as a “miscarriage of justice and a betrayal of Nigerians’ trust”. In a statement on Thursday, PDP National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba said the ruling ignored “overwhelming evidence” that allegedly proved its candidate, Dr Asue Ighodalo, won the election. “With the avalanche of evidence presented and duly admitted by the tribunal, it was clear that our candidate, Dr Asue Ighodalo, secured the highest number of valid votes cast,” Ologunagba stated.

Vowing to challenge the ruling, the PDP said it is heading to the Court of Appeal along with its candidate, Asue Ighodalo, expressing hope that the appellate court will “do the needful and deliver justice to the people of Edo.” Police recover body of site engineer allegedly killed, buried by employees Farmers trained in pesticide management to boost agricultural exports ‘Tribunal contradicted its own findings’ The PDP, after reviewing the ruling, said it was deeply concerned that despite “clear findings” of electoral manipulation—including the wrongful allocation of votes to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the cancellation of valid PDP votes—the tribunal still ruled in favour of Okpebholo. “It is very disturbing that despite the overwhelming evidence and findings by the tribunal, the PDP was robbed of its clear victory.

“The judgement constitutes a major threat to Nigerians’ confidence in democracy and the adjudication of electoral disputes,” Ologunagba said. Unlock AI's potential!
