Article content A new bowling alley will strike Edmonton’s northside at the Christy’s Corner shopping centre next fall. Splitsville Entertainment will open its inaugural Edmonton location at Christy’s Corner on St. Albert Trail later in 2025, bringing even more entertainment options for visitors in the area.
The location was formerly home to Rollers Roller Rink , which recently opened at a new location nearby. Pat Haggerty, president of Splitsville Entertainment, said the company is looking forward to welcoming people to the Edmonton location and that, although it’s the first, it likely won’t be the last. “We are really excited about coming up to Edmonton and ultimately spreading our brand out inside the city,” said Haggerty.
The first Edmonton Splitsville, once built, will have 31,000 square feet of family entertainment space, including 21 lanes of bowling, a “state-of-the-art” arcade, with a full bar and lounge offering drinks and “casual dining.” The location plans to give the bowling experience a modern twist, offering interactive bowling games, lane-side food and drink service, and VIP lanes. “We’re sort of going through this revitalization of the bowling brand itself,” said Haggerty.
He said part of the sport’s revamp includes upping the experience for the customer, which Splitsville intends to do in Edmonton. “The physical look and feel with lighting and sound, the mixture of a little bit higher end food. We don’t necessarily like to have people with knives and forks down by the lane,” said Haggerty with a laugh, “but, appies and tapas just really fits in.
” Marketed as a family entertainment centre, Splitsville’s entertainment options won’t just be limited to bowling at the new location. “Our second biggest component inside the buildings is our arcade offering,” said Haggerty. Splitsville said the arcade will be a mix of old and new, giving customers a blend of classic arcade games where they can rack up points, and also with newer games like virtual reality technology.
The Edmonton location will be just the latest in a recent growth spurt for Splitsville, which has ballooned from six locations in 2022 to 16 once the new location is built. Haggerty said the group currently has four locations in Calgary and is hoping to make a similar mark in the Edmonton market, starting with Christy’s Corner. “We really love your ring road in Edmonton.
We really love the way your traffic flows,” said Haggerty. He said that the company is looking to make the most of the access provided by Anthony Henday Drive to divide the city into four quarters, the northeast, northwest (Christy’s Corner), southeast and southwest. They hope to have locations in each of the sections throughout the city in the coming years.
Haggerty said the group is “really looking forward to later next year and opening a few more after that.” [email protected] Twitter/X: @ZacharyDelaney.
