The week in visual commentary.

Financial markets across the globe tumbled last week after President Donald Trump announced across-the-board 10% tariffs on imported goods, and higher levies on dozens of countries, including Vietnam (46%), China (34%), the European Union (20%). Mike Luckovich leads this week’s editorial cartoon gallery with his view of Trump’s “America First” agenda, drawing the president driving Uncle Sam off a cliff and into the jaws of a recession. Bill Bramhall views tariffs as a ball and chain on the U.

S. consumer. Joey Weatherford trumpets the return of the American dream.

But to Michael Ramirez, Trump’s “liberation day” means liberating Americans from their money. Steve Breen’s bull market is flattened by the tank representing Trump’s trade war. On the politics front, a Wisconsin supreme court election seen as a bellwether ended in defeat for billionaire Elon Musk, who spent $20 million on behalf of the losing conservative candidate.

Walt Handelsman’s GOP elephant is seen in pieces, blaming Musk’s chainsaw approach to cutting the federal government. David Horsey pictures Musk crashing a rocket and saying, “I think Mars might be more hospitable than Wisconsin.” Other topics in this week’s editorial cartoon gallery include Trump’s musings about serving a third term, despite the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution limiting presidents to two terms; New Jersey Sen.

Cory Booker’s marathon 25-hour speech on the Senate floor; and continued fallout from government layoffs and the Signal chat scandal. Cartoons were drawn by Jack Ohman, Nick Anderson, Bill Bramhall, Dana Summers, Drew Sheneman, Scott Stantis, Walt Handelsman, David Horsey, Phil Hands, Joel Pett and Joey Weatherford of Tribune Content Agency; and Mike Luckovich, Steve Breen and Michael Ramirez of Creators Syndicate.
