By Darin Zullo Ed Sheeran has found the perfect place for his new pub: the North Shore. The English singer-songwriter recently launched the website for The Old Phone , a “cozy, warm, and inviting” pop-up Irish pub set to celebrate its opening Friday in Ipswich. The pub is “inspired by a journey through time” and aims to be a place for celebrating memories and making new ones, according to the website.
“Blending the nostalgia of times gone by with the comfort of your favorite local establishment, guests are a part of something much larger than just a night out,” the pub’s website reads. Sheeran’s love for Massachusetts shone through earlier this month when he played a special St. Patrick’s Day show at The Dubliner, a Boston pub.
To promote The Old Phone’s launch, Sheeran is encouraging people to text a special number for updates on the opening. In a video previously posted on the pub’s website, Sheeran asked fans to use the number to submit old photos or videos, screenshots of texts, or anything else nostalgic to them, The Boston Globe reported . Sheeran shared more details Wednesday night when he appeared on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
” He said that while The Old Phone is “a full working pub,” it’s only planned to “stand for two days.” Sheeran suggested that the pub will appear in the music video for “Old Phone,” a song off “Play,” his upcoming eighth studio album. Sheeran also played the song on “The Tonight Show” for what he said was the second time ever.
As for the old messages and photos that guests are sending in, Sheeran has plans to feature them and “project them on the walls.” The pub’s address isn’t on its website yet, but it will be located in downtown Ipswich behind the EBSCO headquarters, according to a Town of Ipswich press release. The Old Phone will only be open Friday for those who have received a confirmation text, along with a guest, the statement said.
The town encouraged attendees to travel by public transit or a ride-share service rather than driving because the pub “is not in a readily visible location.” More details about The Old Phone’s launch can be found by joining the pub’s mailing list .
