Celebrated baker Paul Hollywood has divulged his top tip for checking if a cupcake is fully baked without resorting to the traditional method of poking it with a toothpick or fork. Baking can be a tricky affair. Even when you follow a recipe to the letter, sometimes the outcome isn't quite what you expected.
While muffins and cupcakes might seem like an easy bake, determining whether they've spent enough time in the oven can be challenging, especially as ovens may vary in the way they cook things. To lend a hand and help amateur bakers succeed in the kitchen, Great British Bake Off star Paul Hollywood has shared his straightforward technique for ensuring that your cupcakes are properly baked in the middle, negating the need for a toothpick or fork test. In a TikTok video on his personal account, the well-known TV baker shows off a batch of freshly baked cupcakes, still in their tray, as he describes simple way to tell if they're ready to come out of the oven.
"That's the colour that you're looking for. You're looking for that golden brown, he said. He went on to reveal that there's a simple way to determine whether your fresh cupcakes are thoroughly cooked in the middle, without having to poke it with a toothpick.
"When you touch it, it's slightly crispy and it's firm," he demonstrates, gently pressing the cupcakes. "It bounces back." Paul also explains the tell-tale signs indicating that your cupcakes or muffins might require a little longer in the oven.
"If it leaves a fingerprint, you know it hasn't baked right in the middle of it," he advises. He elaborated on the baking process, saying: "You know it's baked because it's got some, it's got some tension there on the top." The cherished TV chef has recently been gaining popularity across the pond after he's been winning over American viewers as Bake Off , known in the States as The Great British Baking Show, have found a new audience on Netflix.
