Pia Farmer, partner at Easy Car Sales, told Guardian Business yesterday that while she was distressed by the fire that broke out at the Solomon’s Supermarket adjacent to her car lot, she is happy that her property was largely unscathed, and all her company had to worry about was intense smoke, but all its personnel and equipment are safe. “Everything is okay. We, of course, were very nervous during the fire and thought that it was going to spread, especially because next door to us is the derelict City Meat Market building that has been allowed to fester.
” “Apart from that, we’re very distressed about the loss experienced by AML Foods, and Adrian Fox with the beautiful new building he constructed, and all the money and time and effort invested in those buildings. We’re so sorry for our neighbors. “We’re so grateful to the fire department and everybody that finally got it under control, and we’re grateful that we were not affected by the fire.
Obviously, on the day we had the smoke and everything, but we were not adversely affected.” As of yesterday, officials said that the fire that broke out in the Solomon’s Super Center and Cost Right building was contained. Renea Bastian, vice president of marketing and business development at AML, in a statement to the media, said that: “We are incredibly thankful to report that all staff and customers were safely evacuated before the fire spread, and we commend and acknowledge the quick action and leadership of our store teams, as well as the emergency protocols that our company has in place.
“While the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation by the relevant authorities, we can confirm that the fire did not originate in the generator room at the Solomon’s Old Trail location, contrary to recent media reports. In fact, we confirm that as of this morning, the Solomon’s generator and electrical room, which were not affected by the fire, remain intact and operational.” Bastian also said: “We do understand that immediately before the fire, construction work was being carried out at the rear of the Department of Labor building in the vicinity of a fuel tank.
We can also confirm that this construction work was in no way affiliated with Solomon’s or Cost Right.” Farmer said the Royal Bahamas Police Force has barricaded the road leading into the Solomon’s parking lot from the East West Highway, adding that this is only a temporary measure to facilitate the police force’s investigation. “All you have to do is ask the police to let you in to the driveway and that you want to come to Easy Car Sales, and they will let you through.
We are still open for business. The police have been cooperating with us, our customers, and our staff to access our location and there is no problem,” Farmer assured. This is the second fire in the past three months that Easy Car Sales was affected by.
Its Gladstone Road location was in the vicinity of a much larger fire that engulfed a scrap metal yard at the back of the New Providence Ecology Park in February. Farmer said Easy Car Sales is lucky to have escaped both fires unscathed..
