Passengers travelling between Eastbourne and Hastings over Easter are being urged to plan ahead. Network Rail has announced that essential engineering work will be carried out across south London, East Kent, and East Sussex, including the laying of over 5km of new track between Eastbourne and Hastings and the installation of a new level crossing at Pevensey. This will mean that all lines between Eastbourne and Hastings will be closed from April 18 to April 21, with buses replacing trains.
David Davidson, Network Rail's Kent route director, said: "This Easter we are continuing to upgrade the railway for passengers with major projects in the Battersea and Lewisham areas, and between Eastbourne and Hastings. "While we are reminding people to plan ahead and check their journey, more than 90 per cent of the network is open and trains are running. "If your route is affected, bus replacements are available, and tickets will be accepted on alternative services.
" Scott Brightwell, Southeastern’s operations and safety director, said: "We understand that essential engineering work can affect journeys, but these upgrades are crucial to improving reliability and performance for our passengers." The work is part of a wider programme of railway upgrades across the south east, which will see more than 90 per cent of the railway remain open over the Easter period..
