Explainer Briefly Slides Bharti Airtel reported a net income of Rs 3,593 crore in the second quarter of the financial year 2025 (Q2FY25) ending on September 30, 2024. This indicates a 168% rise in the company’s profit compared to September last year when the net income stood at Rs 1,341 crore. The company’s consolidated quarterly revenue stood at Rs 41,473 crore, indicating a 12% year-on-year increase compared to last year when it stood at Rs 37,044 crore.

While the company has seen a major increase in operating income, on a quarterly basis it lost 2.87 million subscribers in Q2 in India. This took its customer base in the country from roughly 409 million to taking its total customer base in India to 407 million.



This comes after the telecom operator increased prices for its recharge plans for its mobile services. On a yearly basis, Airtel’s India customer base continues to improve growing by 4.4% compared to Q2FY24 where it stood at 389.

The company explains that this growth is a byproduct of “tariff repair, strong smartphone data customer additions, and underlying mix improvement.” Airtel Africa mobile service revenue: Airtel reported a revenue of Rs 10,163 crore for its African mobile service segment in Q2FY25, indicating a very slight decline of 1.11% compared to the same quarter last year where the revenue for this segment stood at Rs 10,276.

Revenue from Digital TV services: This revenue stood at Rs 758.6 crore which is a 1.0% year-on-year increase compared to last year when the segment’s revenue stood at Rs 751.

License fee/spectrum charges: These charges for the quarter were Rs 3465 crore. These charges increased by 16.9% in Q2FY25 when compared to the same quarter last year where they stood at Rs 2964 crore.

Access charges: Access charges for the quarter were Rs 1821 crore which is 0.3% higher than last year when they were Rs 1814 crore. Segment-wise performance (before financial costs/taxes): Mobile services India: This segment had a profit of Rs 6189 crore which is 32% higher than the same quarter last year where the profit stood at Rs 4677 crore.

Mobile services Africa: African mobile services earned a profit of Rs 3111 crore which is 10.88% lower than the profit in the same quarter last year which was Rs 3491 crore. Airtel Business: This segment had a profit of Rs 1439 crore, indicating a 6.

7% decline in profit for this segment compared to the same quarter last year where the profits stood at Rs 1543 crore. Homes Services: Home services made a profit of Rs 338 crore, which is 16.9% higher than the profit in the same quarter last year which stood at Rs 289 crore.

Digital TV: Digital TV had a profit of Rs 1.2 crore this quarter which is drastically lower than the same quarter last year where it stood at Rs 37.4 crore.

Tower infrastructure services: This segment had a profit of Rs 1030 crore which is 46.4% higher than last year when the segment’s profit stood at Rs 551.8 crore.

Key operational metrics: Total Subscriber numbers: Airtel’s total subscriber base in 15 countries stood at 563 million which is a 4.3% increase compared to last year where the subscriber base stood at 540 million. Airtel Africa’s total customer base: The customer base for this region is 157 million, indicating a 6.

1% increase compared to last year when these figures stood at 147.6 million. Average revenue per user in India (ARPU) : ARPU for the quarter stood at Rs 233 as compared to Rs 203 in Q2FY24.

Post-paid subscribers: Post-paid connections on Airtel’s network grew by 0.8 Mn in Q2, taking Airtel’s total post-paid subscriber base to 24.7 million.

Fixed wireless access (FWA) subscriber base: FWA connections grew by 583,000, taking the total FWA subscriber base to 8.6 million. Digital TV customer base: Airtel Digital TV has a customer base of 15.
