Pune: The Pimpri Chinchwad police on Wednesday conducted a search of the DY Patil University after it received an email claiming that an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was planted in a canteen. The threat, however, turned out to be a hoax, police said. The Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) conducted a thorough search on the university premises, but nothing suspicious was found.
The DY Patil University's director of vigilance and security, Barkat Mujawar, told TOI that the email was sent to the official email ID of the dean of the DY Patil Medical College, stating that an IED was planted in the canteen. "We immediately alerted the police and declared code black for the safety of the people who were present on the premises," Mujawar said. Senior inspector Gorakh Kumbhar of the Sant Tukaramnagar police said the police are tracing the mail's source.
"Our investigations are on," he said..
