Drivers with limited mobility have been given a way to get a significant discount off their next car, but they will need to act fast in order to benefit from it. The mobility allowance vehicle leasing firm Motability has highlighted that they have extended their New Vehicle Payment scheme. On the company's website, Motability highlighted that the scheme allows drivers to save £750 when buying a new car or wheelchair accessible vehicle , such as a minivan .

Those who are eligible to use the Motability scheme need to be claiming a qualifying mobility allowance from the DWP . The DWP benefits which would make you eligible include Personal Independence Payments (PIP), the Disability Living Allowance (higher part), or DLA, or in Scotland, the higher rate mobility component of Child Benefit. In this way, those claiming the right DWP benefits can then get £750 from Motability.

Motability explained: "It's called the New Vehicle Payment for cars and Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles (WAV). It's currently £750 and is available once per customer. "You can choose to send this directly to your dealer to help towards your Advance Payment or have this paid in full to you after you get your vehicle.

" The New Vehicle Payment scheme was rolled out to help make suitable vehicles slightly more affordable to the road users that could benefit from them. In September 2024, Motability warned new customers that the popular scheme would be axed at the end of the year. However, it has since highlighted a brief extension to compensate for dealerships that are closed over the Christmas period.

Whilst drivers do not have to collect the vehicle by the expiry date, they will need to order their car before January 4 2025 in order to qualify. Motability stated that new customers will receive this payment after they order their new vehicle, with the money either going directly to the dealership or the customer, depending on their wishes. They added: "You'll get this payment if you order your first vehicle by January 3 2025.

This was due to end on December 31 2024, but we've extended it for a few days to give you chance to order if your dealer is closed over the festive period. "If you're already on the Scheme and have not had your New Vehicle Payment yet, you'll get it whenever you get your next vehicle." The company also highlighted that a similar scheme, the New Product Payment, can also give motorists a discount on smaller vehicles, such as scooters and powered wheelchairs.

Since these products are cheaper to buy than a new car, the discount is £100 and is only eligible to new customers who purchase the vehicle before January 3 2025. However, Motability highlighted that customers cannot take advantage of both schemes at once, instead having to choose between the two vehicle types to receive a discount..
