Chennai: Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption ( DVAC ) on Friday registered a corruption case against four officials of Velachery taluk and two others on charges of converting a govt plot to private land by illegally issuing documents. DVAC registered this case after Madras high court had askedit to conduct a preliminary enquiry into this issue while hearing a writ petition earlier this year. In the FIR, the accused have been named as R Manisekar, the former tahsildar of Velachery taluk, R Loganathan, the deputy inspector of survey, J Santosh Kumar, a field surveyor, and K Sridevi, a senior draughtsperson at the Velachery taluk office.

The other two accused were private individuals, an AIADMK worker, M A Murthy, and M Sudha. According to DVAC, parcels of land measuring 100 square metres and 1,760 square metres in two separate survey numbers in Velachery village were declared as excess vacant land by the Tamil Nadu govt. It was found that on Aug 4,2021, the four accused officials issued a patta to Murthy and Sudha.

This patta was for two land parcels of 1,200 square feet each which were subdivided. This illegal process was approved by the officials and the ownership was changed from govt to Murthy and Sudha, the agency said..
