Harvey finished with 178 yards rushing and scored twice in each half. Dutchtown (8-1, 5-1) claimed a share of the District 5-5A championship with St. Amant, which defeated Denham Springs on Thursday.

Live Oak (3-6, 2-4) likely saw its playoff hopes end with the loss. Sophomore defensive back Cayden Carter picked up the first of his two interceptions on the night on Live Oak’s opening drive, as he stepped in front of a sideline throw and took the ball 20 yards for the opening score. “A young sophomore, that is his first start for us, and he did a fantastic job,” Dutchtown coach Guy Mistretta said of Carter.

“And he came back later and got another one for us when Live Oak was trying to get something going.” Neither offense got much going in the first quarter, but the Griffins began to build their lead as the game got closer to halftime. Harvey scored on plays of 35 and 26 yards in the second quarter to help Dutchtown to a 21-0 lead at halftime.

“He is such a big back,” Mistretta said of Harvey. “He wasn’t getting a lot in the first quarter, but we told him to keep pounding and keep hitting them. A body like that with his speed is tough on a defense.

“The offensive line really got it going in the second quarter. I thought we dominated that quarter." Harvey added scoring runs of 20 and 46 yards in the second half to help put the game away.

Dutchtown held the Eagles to 176 total yards. Mistretta looked forward to some corrections before his team begins its playoff run next week. “I thought we played hard in the second half,” he said.

“But there is a lot that we can clean up to finish that game. Going forward, you can’t make some of the situational mistakes that we made tonight.” Meanwhile, Live Oak and first-year coach Randell Legette had a tough final week of the season.

“We had a lot of things happen to us during the course of this week that not a lot of people knew about that put us at a disadvantage, but that is no excuse," Legette said. "You have to have to come out here and perform. Nobody on the outside cares about what happens to us internally.

“I want to thank our seniors and their ability to help this program and we are going to continue to grind it out moving forward”.
