Dutch National Opera to Tour ‘Dido and Aeneas’

The Dutch National Opera is set to perform Purcell’s “Dido and Aeneas” on tour in concert performances.The company will partner with Opera Zuid and Nederlandse Reisopera and will be touring the Netherlands with a Purcell programme centred around the short opera “Dido and Aeneas.”This music from more than 300 years ago will be interpreted by members of the Dutch National Opera Studio, including Martina Myskohlid, Leander Carlier, Polly Leech, Sophia Hunt, Rita Fernandez, and Salvador Villanueva.

They will be conducted by young Baroque specialist Camille Delaforge. They will also be joined by the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra and the Dutch National Opera Young Baroque Voices, consisting of a group of young conservatorium students.The program also includes “Saul and the Witch of Endor” (1693), another work by Purcell in which witchcraft plays a major role.
