‘The Diamond’ has become well-known for his love of one particular technique in recent years. At 36-years-old with 39-fights under his belt, Dustin Poirier has his retirement fight in sight before he wraps up an incredible career. The former interim lightweight champion has spent a long time training on one of the most talented mats in the sport at American Top Team in Coconut Creek, Florida.
In recent years, that has meant training with Scotland’s Chris Duncan who recently earned praise from Poirier for his latest win in London. Duncan even partially credited Poirier for the win after revealing that it was the fan favorite’s guillotine choke technique that he used to submit Jordan Vucenic. Poirier has threated with many guillotines during his time in the UFC, including a famous attempt against Khabib Nurmagomedov and his repeated jumps in his matchup with Benoit Saint-Denis . The same can’t be said for Chris Duncan who has rebounded from his submission loss to Manuel Torres with back-to-back guillotine choke victories. In tribute to his teammate for helping him to record these wins, Duncan recently honored Poirier and his love of the guillotine with a recent tattoo.
The Scottish lightweight’s new ink was posted on Instagram by Rock’n’Roll Tattoo in Glasgow where Duncan added his latest piece. A post shared by Rock'n'Roll Tattoo Glasgow (@rocknrolltattooglasgow) Chris Duncan has continued to evolve during his time at American Top Team The time that Chris Duncan has spent over at American Top Team is clearly paying off for him in his UFC career. He first appeared on Dana White’s Contender Series back in 2021 where the brawler suffered a knockout loss to Viacheslav Borshchev.
Duncan returned to the series the following year where despite impressing Dana White and getting the win, it was his toughness and heart that saw him produce a remarkable turnaround against Charlie Campbell . Since then, ‘The Problem’ has become a much more well-rounded fighter with four UFC wins under his belt that have showcased his improving grappling game in particular.
