Dustin Poirier wants to revert to the old MMA rules for his retirement fight. Last week, ‘The Diamond’ confirmed his last dance will be against Max Holloway at UFC 318 on July 19. Dustin Poirier originally pitched a four-man one-night tournament for his last hurrah.

However, that idea was shut down by Dana White, whom the Louisiana native is hoping to talk into implementing a few rule changes for his BMF title fight with ‘Blessed’.READ MORE: Dustin Poirier chokes MMA journalist unconscious in frightening example of UFC legend’s infamous guillotinePhoto by Logan Riely/Getty ImagesDustin Poirier wants PRIDE rules for BMF fightsPRIDE matches were famously made up of three rounds. The first of them lasted for 10 minutes, with the following two being just five minutes in length.

Intermissions between fighting frames were two minutes long. Fighters were allowed to use soccer kicks, stomps, and knees to the head of a grounded opponent during contests that were judged as a whole, as opposed to the round-by-round system currently utilized by most mainstream MMA leagues.Poirier wants the UFC to implement PRIDE rules for his retirement bout and all future BMF title fights.

“Bring back 10-minute first rounds. Love that, man,” he told Ariel Helwani.“If we do it that way, let’s go really far back, let’s do a 10-minute first round and you judge the fight as a whole, not round-by-round.

“At the end of every fight, I would rather the judge say, ‘Which guy would you rather be walking out of the Octagon?’“Every time there’s a BMF title fight, 10-minute first round, fights judged as a whole, soccer kicks allowed.”Dustin Poirier dreams of Lil Wayne cameo at UFC 318 Poirier’s rule change idea is unlikely to get sanctioned in time for UFC 318.However, he’s got a much more realistic dream walk-out planed for his final MMA fight.

Poirier added: “My first fight in the UFC, when I fought Josh Grispi, I walked out to Lil Wayne.“If Lil Wayne was to walk me out in New Orleans, I’ll walk out to Lil Wayne in my last fight.”Lil Wayne is a big UFC fan, so it seems highly likely he’d down to walk out Poirier.

Only time will tell if the rapper will make a cameo during the UFC’s return to New Orleans..
