Pune: Two employees of private companies collectively lost Rs 97 lakh between April and July in separate cases of online share trading frauds. The Sangvi and Bhosari MIDC police have registered respective cases on Thursday. A 33-year-old resident of Pimple Saudagar lost Rs 83 lakh in the online share trading fraud between June and Aug.

He stated in his complaint with the Sangvi police that he was added to a group of investors on a mobile messenger app. "The victim was promised good returns on his investments in the stock market through them. The crooks also told him to download an app to monitor his investments and profit earned," an officer from the Sangvi police said.

He said between June and Aug, the victim transferred Rs 83 lakh to different bank account numbers provided to him. "He could see in the app that he had earned a profit of Rs 2.17 crore.

The victim, however, realized that he was duped when the crooks demanded Rs 32.55 lakh more to withdraw his money," the officer said. He said the victim stopped responding to crooks and filed an online complaint.

"After preliminary investigations, a case was registered," he said. In another fraud, a 40-year-old employee of a private company in Bhosari MIDC lost Rs 14 lakh to the crooks in similar fraud between April and May.
