The board made the appointment given that no one, including Redman, filed to run for the seat in November's general election. According to the Indiana School Boards Association, school board incumbents are able to retain their seats if no candidates run for their seats under a holdover provision in the Indiana constitution. Redman will begin his new term in January, with his seat up for election in November 2028, according to Duneland School Corp.
Superintendent Chip Pettit. The school board also approved the purchase of two indoor batting cages totaling over $8,100 for the high school baseball and softball teams. Additionally, the board approved five new high school courses for the next school year.
They are information technology, networking and cybersecurity, kinesiology classes, as well as another dual-credit math course, and Advance Placement U.S. Government, which will replace the existing honors government course.
In other business, board members approved a one-year memorandum of understanding with the Chesterton Police Department regarding school resource officers and the exchange of information and records. The next regular Duneland School Board meeting is set for Dec. 2.
