Dulaney junior Sarah Crowley scored a game-high four goals and had an assist and sophomore goalie Torunn Spencer didn’t allow a goal as the Lions cruised to a 13-5 victory over host Hereford. The Lions (5-2) were never threatened after it scored the game’s first five goals courtesy of five different players. Maxine Yeakel (three goals, one assist), Isabella Anselmi, Crowley, Mackenzie Ottey and London Kraft (one goal, one assist) scored the goals in the first quarter.
Yeakel is the only senior in that quintet.Yeakel added her second goal early in the second quarter and Crowley scored three straight to bump the lead to nine.“We’ve got some youth on our attack, so it’s taken them a little bit of time to start understanding each other, but at this point in the season they’ve started just reading each other better and knowing where to find each other,” Dulaney coach Kristi Korrow said.
“I was really proud of the ball work and the movement on the attacking end. They did a fantastic job.”Heidi Schmidt (three goals) and Yeakel pushed the lead to 11 late in the first half.

We are a cutting team. We are a driving team and we had a meeting the other day at practice and our coach asked each person who would you trust with the ball the most and we trusted every single person. We knew that when we threw it to every single person they would catch it and we would trust them with the ball and I think that’s kind of how our attack its built on the trust that we have in each other.
”The defense is equally as trustworthy as evidenced by their ability to force turnovers and poor shot selection.Related ArticlesSeasoned No. 5 Severna Park boys lacrosse downs rival No.

”“We do a lot of skills in practice to work on being on the same page and I really think that shone today, like If someone went to slide we had her help and we were good on doubles and everything was just so amazing,” Spencer said.Spencer left the game with 36 seconds left in the first half after getting a yellow card and the Lions leading 11-0.“Their starting goalie was phenomenal,” Hereford coach Kelly Switch said.
“We did take some very weak shots, we just have to finish and that’s what we didn’t do today.”“We played Glenelg and that was a little bit of a rough game, but me and my coach worked really hard this week and from the start of warmups I really just felt on,” Spencer said, “and I just was like, ‘I’m going to come in here and I’m just going to try to hold them to no goals’ and my defense helped with that, forcing them left and making me to set up for great shots.”The sophomore keeper was also her understudy’s biggest cheerleader and was one of the first to give her a hug after the game.
“We were up and It’s really great my teammate [Bowers] got to go back in because she did amazing and she works so hard in practice and she really shined out there, so I’m really proud for her,” Spencer said.Hereford finally got on board on a free position goal by Allie Marzullo with 30 second left in the half and Lulu Shive scored three goals and Linley Morrow added one in the second half for the Bulls (2-4).“They played great.
They came out from the first whistle, we were a little slow on that part of it and we are definitely young and they grew up a little bit today,” Swift said. “Coming out and them getting five or six goals right away, for having such young kids, it’s hard to get them mentally to get in it and stay in it. I am proud of my girls for not giving up and they kept fighting until the end which is exactly what I want them to do.
