Vadodara: In a disturbing reminder of the Karelibaug incident on March 13, Vadodara witnessed another case of reckless driving on Monday night. A 30-year-old driver allegedly rammed his car into six vehicles while under the influence of alcohol. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

The driver, identified as Mitesh Baria , had been assigned to transport a doctor to Narmada district. He consumed alcohol while returning to the city from Dabhoi. On his way, he knocked down three two-wheeler riders in Khodiyarnagar before crashing into a tempo, a car, and an auto-rickshaw.

"Baria, who works as a professional driver, had been assigned to pick up a doctor and take him to Narmada district. However, he consumed liquor on the way back to the city and lost control of his vehicle," said VR Chaudhary, police sub-inspector at Warasia police station. Police recovered a small liquor bottle from Baria's car.

Two FIRs were registered against him—one for rash driving and another under the Prohibition Act. He was later released on bail. According to police, Baria was so intoxicated that he could barely stand when officers reached the spot.

"We had to physically drag him to the police vehicle. He was taken to a hospital for a medical examination," Chaudhary said, adding that Baria previously worked as a driver for a private hospital. Police are now investigating how he procured the alcohol.

The incident has drawn comparisons to a similar accident that occurred in Karelibaug last month, when law student Rakshit Chaurasia rammed his car into three two-wheelers, killing a woman and injuring seven others. Chaurasia was later found to be under the influence of ganja..
