A 23-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of careless driving and drug-driving following a crash which left a man in his 70s in hospital with serious injuries in Paignton. The road traffic collision occurred yesterday, April 7, at around 3.55pm, and involved a green Citroen C1 VTR saloon and a male pedestrian on Great Western Road in Paignton , at the junction with Torbay Road.
The one-way street near Paignton train station was closed for several hours as a result of the crash. Devon and Cornwall Police said that a local man in his 70s was taken to Torbay District Hospital for treatment after suffering serious injuries. Officers arrested a woman, aged 23, on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving, and driving a motor vehicle with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the specified limit.
She has been released under investigation, pending further enquiries. Officers from the Roads Policing Team thanked the public for their patience whilst an investigation took place at the scene. The road was reopened at around 8.
