LEAGUE champions Droitwich Spa's undefeated away record came to an end as they failed to score in a game for the first time since September in a 1-0 defeat to Clanfield. Tyger Hall scored the only goal of the match, converting a penalty late in the game to secure victory for the hosts at Radcot Road in Hellenic League Division One on Saturday (April 5). Droitwich started brightly, with Josh Hurdman showcasing his silky skillset by evading two defenders but failing to find the back of the net.
Moments later, Spa keeper Dom Rogerson made a fantastic save to deny a close-range effort from Finley Baker, keeping the score level. Despite the pressure, the Saltmen struggled to convert their chances, with their best opportunity coming from a flicked header by James Lemon that struck the post. As the match progressed, Clanfield began to assert themselves, but Rogerson was up to the challenge, making another crucial save from a low free kick.
Droitwich continued to press, with Hurdman’s attempts thwarted by the Clanfield keeper, Luke Haley. But the game took its decisive turn late on, when a contentious penalty was awarded to the hosts in the 85th minute. Hall stepped up with the pressure on, sending Rogerson the wrong way from 12 yards for the lead.
Things went from bad to worse for the Saltmen when Jack Brighton was sent off for a needless stamp on Jordan Cavender in injury time, allowing Clanfield to cruise to victory. Spa will look to bounce back when they face Tytherington Rocks on Saturday, April 12 back at home at Kingy’s in league action..
