While investigating a car crashing into a light pole on March 9 at Coleman Boulevard and Mill Street, Mount Pleasant police located the female driver, who was later collared for DUI 1st. Upon arrival, police reportedly found the local fire department with the suspect at about 9:35 p.m.
While communicating the events that led to the collision, the 23-year-old White female conceded to drinking two cups of wine earlier in the evening. Prior to partaking in SFSTs (Standardized Field Sobriety Tests), the motorist was asked if she had any medical impairments, to which she responded "ADHD." The testing revealed a lack of smooth pursuit in both eyes, a lack of balance, along with an improper turn and steps in the walk-and-turn.
The suspect proceeded to sway by using her arms for balance during the one-leg-stand. She did, however, accurately recite the alphabet from D to R. Following her arrest, the subject communicated that she also consumed a shot with her two glasses of wine, as detailed in a corresponding police incident report.
While at the MPPD stationhouse, the alleged offender issued a breath sample of 0.23 percent BAC, which is indicative of "very high" intoxication in South Carolina. That type of reading may be accompanied by additional penalties in addition to an arrest, as well as a mandatory ignition interlock device for a period of time.
